 Therefore, stainless steel balls are more commonly used for target shooting with ball recovery, the stainless steel ball will always keep its clean and shiny appearance, and carbon steel balls are more intended for shooting in the wild. Carbon steel will oxidize and disintegrate over time. Its environmental impact is therefore less than that of a stainless steel ball.

 It is nevertheless recommended to recover these projectiles as much as possible.
